Pool Safety For Children

Swimming Pools can be great fun, and children love to play in them, but it's so easy for children to hurt themselves or drown in the pool.  It simply is not worth taking any risks with regards your child's safety, and anything you can do to ensure they're secure and out of danger.  If you can wait, then wait until your children are old enough to swim before putting a swimming pool on your property.  If you already have a pool, or simply can't wait, then you need to take appropriate precautions to ensure that your little ones cannot injure themselves in the water.

It is simple commonsense that says you shouldn't leave the kids alone near the pool - even if you're only going a few metres away and even if it seems adequately protected.  It only takes a few minutes to drown, and children are drawn towards the water, enchanted by its mystical allure.  And because you said "don't" they almost always want to "do".

But even after you follow commonsense guidelines there's still the possibility of accidents happening, so it is always best to prepare yourself for the unexpected.  Safety rings and shepherd's hooks allow quick retrieval of straying children, and assist others who get into difficulty while swimming.  Keeping a telephone at the poolside for emergencies is an excellent plan.

Safety fences can increase pool safety for children: stopping them getting to the pool in the first place is more effective than picking them out once they're in.  A sturdy fence will help ensure that the children go into the pool on your terms, not theirs.  Obviously the pool fence needs to be made in such a way as to prevent children climbing over or squeezing through.  Specially made fences will cover all this.  It also needs to have a locking gate.  Obviously.

Learning CPR is an excellent insurance policy, and should the worse happen you'll be better equipped to help a child that is in danger.  Hopefully if you follow the guidance above you'll never find yourself in this situation; naturally, though, the unexpected tends to delight in throwing these little surprises on us.

Swimming is fun, and some great days can be had by the pool.  With a little thought, care and planning you can help prevent the accidents that spoil the day, the year, or someone's life.
